I'm happy to see everyone I missed and love, but now I am missing more people that I love that are in the most beautiful country in the world with equally beautiful people.
Not going to get into all this emotional stuff, but I'm back and ready to catch up. I have the same number and email addy as always.
Sorry for not updating much while I was away and for not keeping in touch very well. The time is NOW!
Love you all!!
ari :)
Oh my....shall we start with the most recent news?? Well we just got back yesterday from our week-long township stay. We stayed in Tambo Village which is a very interesting community. It is located between two highly historical townships: Guguletu and Manenburg. If you're interested, you should look them up and find out their brief history. It was a really big deal that white people were there, even in 2008, these issues are still so huge. We kept hearing people yell "white people!! white people!!" in the local language (Xhosa)...and we were treated like celebrities. The children were especially open and impressed, they kept playing with my hair and my arm hair. Sho - those kids have my heart. I connected especially well with a little boy named Luphelo. He just turned 8 yesterday, and he is one of the cutest kids in the country. I love how kids just pick you out and decide that you're their friend. I had a few incidences with kids just kind of latching on to me and not letting go. It makes me want to have lots of kids!! (Watch out Cole!! Mom, are you excited?? Haha jk)
While in the township we laid concrete in some shacks, made a pathway and also did some painting. It was a lot of hard work, but it was work that made a difference so it was totally worth the sweat and bruises. (I could update on this township stay for a five pages, so I think I should stop now!!)
Oh my...(not-so)perfect timing....I need to go. Life is busy here, but I'll try to update again soon!!
Thanks for all the love, support, prayers, letters and packages! I appreciate all of it soooo much!!
Loving it with her whole heart,
arielle :)
I am so so sorry about the lack of my posts. I've been extremely busy. I would update now, but the internet is very very very slow, and I also have an insane about of work to do.
I have been having a lot of fun, I went to a trance party last weekend, some braai's, and we just got back from Johannesburg last night. My goodness, I have some good stories about that trip - we got off with no serious injuries, praise God! Wowza.
Thank you to everyone who gave me birthday wishes!! I've been getting a lot of mail and it realllly brightens my day SO much. It makes me feel like I'm at home, and it's nice to know that I'm in your thoughts. I love you all sooooo much!!
It's less than six months until I become a Forrester!!!! Yaaaay!! I'm getting so excited I can barely handle it. Woohooo!!]
Hopefully I'll have a better update soon. So sorry for being so lame!

drained
This is my third attempt in the last few days to write an update, but it seems like everytime I have written a substantial amount, we lose power...which means the computers turn off...which means I've lost everything I've written. It's a funny thing, and a great way to learn patience and the art of "going with the flow", after all, "this is africa".
When our group first arrived in Cape Town we were told to never forget two important rules:
1. Look BOTH ways TWICE when preparing to cross a street. (They have crazy drivers here, and the roads are switched here, Drive on the left.)
2. Be Flexible. (I am quickly learning this is extremely important)
I do have my address now, but I've left it at home. I plan on making a good update soon, but I'm going to write it on my laptop so that it won't be lost.
This is all for now. Thanks for all the prayers, they are VERY needed!
Take care my lovely support system, I will give you a more detailed and better update soon!
LOVE YOU ALL VERY VERY MUCH!!

exhausted
I'm writing from a "dodgy" internet connection. I am completely exhausted and nothing has really hit me yet. The fact that I am in South Africa hasn't quite made sense to my mind yet. I know that the scenery is different, and the people are more diverse, but the fact that I am on the complete other side of the world from my family, my fiancee, and all of my friends just seems so surreal. Is it real?? I really can't believe it's true!
I absolutely LOVE reading the comments from you all. It's just such a nice piece of home to have something familiar to read. I like imagining that you're actually speaking it to me as I read it, but that makes me almosy cry. I haven't cried a whole lot since I got here, just a healthy amount I think. I will probably have to go home and have a good cry after I've left this computer place.
I moved in with my host family yesterday, so far so great! I am living with a woman name Alice, her 30 y/o son Andre, and two Bethel students, Brittany and Jesse. Another guy from Azuza Pacific University will be moving in with Jesse on Wed and will be staying with us for a month. It's a really nice house, with amazing people, I have a feeling this is going to be fantastic (people here use that word a lot!!!). Last night Jesse, Brittany, and I stayed up late talking to Andre about South African things. It was really cool.
Well I have so much to say, but this place closes at 6pm which is in about 15 minutes. I hope there aren't too many typos as I've written this 3 times now and I just want to be able to post this without having to rewrite it again!!
I love you allllll and I hope this finds you well. By the way, if any of you would like to mail yourselves to me so that we can hang out, I am completely open to this option!
****kisses, hugs, and lots of love****
Ari
Before I forget:
- People have asked: I am staying here for about 5 months (I return May 22)
- Mom, this means I have to get an extension for my student visa or change my ticket. :(
- I don't have my address yet, I just moved in last night and I asked my family, but they said they'll get it to me "just now" which basically means later, in a few days, or possibly never. Hah.
- When you leave a comment, please remember to leave your name! Most of you have been doing that, but every once in while I am left to guess. I usually know who it is, but you know, just in case. Hahah.
- I can't get onto facebook or skype at school (this may not affect any of you) but I assume I will be able to access it at school. Basically, I can get on those programs, just not very often, and I'll have to go to an internet cafe to pay for it.
- Location:CAPE TOWN
Anyway, for the next 5 days we're going to be staying in a dorm like setting. Our residence overlooks False Bay and is right on table mountain. It's so beautiful! I am going to find out about my host family tonight at the brie (bbq) and also who from Bethel will be my roommate.
We walked along the pier today and ate fish and chips. On this pier there were seals, maaaaannnnny fisherman, and some street vendors selling beaded things.
Hmm...well, we're going to go hit the beach!
LOVE YOU ALLL!!!
(it is almost 4pm, hows that for the time difference??)

In hopes of doing something somewhat quasi-productive, I've decided to make a website for everyone to check on while I am in South Africa. I plan on updating this as frequently as possible(my internet access and free time will determine how often that will be) with blogs, pictures, and hopefully an exciting story here and there. I would love it if all of you would make replies to my posts, I chose LiveJournal specifically because anyone can make a reply, you don't need to be a member. I hope this will serve as a good tool for keeping in touch.
I will be flying to South Africa on January 9th, and it seems like time is just
I suppose I should go to bed. Hopefully I can do something truly productive tomorrow. Maybe I'll eat 6 crescent rolls.

I was playing around with photoshop a little a few weeks ago, and this popped out:
I was going to send Save The Date cards to people we're going to invite to our wedding, but I decided otherwise since I think basically everyone knows the date and location. I'd rather save the $200 and put that towards our reception, honeymoon, or something other than a pre-invitation with information that people already know. Yay for being practical!
